Self-Paced Course for Continuing Education
The UTHSCSA was creating a course to train therapists and medical professionals dealing with Executive Function Disorders in their client base. The course was to be part of a self-paced series for certification.
Phase 1: Content Map
In this phase, I created a content map that allowed me to communicate the flow of the course to the stakeholders before production. This stage of planning also helps to ensure that proper L&D processes are utilized.
Phase 2: Course Design
I designed the course with feedback from the course stakeholders. I developed content including knowledge checks and feedback for correct and incorrect answers.
I also designed visuals for the course based on a defined color palette and style guides. I used the theme of bridges throughout the course to represent CAT skills as building a bridge between the client and their therapist as well as the ‘bridge’ that the skills represent for the patient.
Phase 3: Development
After finalizing the content, I used Articulate Storyline to add audio and interactions. I added thematic elements to the basic scripts and worked with a voice-over professional on the narration.
I also built functionality for the knowledge checks and quiz. This stage of development was followed by multiple rounds of QA to ensure that everything worked correctly.
Phase 4: Captions & Navigation
In the final stage, I added and timed closed captions for accessibility, and created an accessible version that is fully 508-compliant. I performed QA testing with all accessibility options, including using a screen reader.
